Looking Forward as the Clocks Go Back

The clocks went back on Sunday. The evenings have drawn in, the light over the east coast of Guernsey arrives a little earlier, but fades in the west rather earlier, and most of us gained an hour we didn’t quite know what to do with.

At Alnistar, we spent ours extra hour looking ahead. The last few months have been about laying foundations across regulation, infrastructure and partnerships. The next few are about seeing those foundations carry weight. Here is what we are watching, building and preparing for as winter arrives.

A clearer rulebook for digital finance

Guernsey’s regulatory direction of travel has never been clearer. The GFSC’s changes to the Lending, Credit and Finance Rules following its July feedback paper on supporting growth with digital finance are now thought to be imminent. Changes already announced sharpen the perimeter for virtual asset services and open the door for regulated firms to serve retail customers with digital finance products.

The piece we are watching most closely is still to come. The Commission has committed to publishing its stablecoin feedback and rules this autumn, and we expect them to set out a proportionate, credible framework for issuers regulated as financial firm businesses under the LCF Law.

The wider context matters too. In the past week alone, the US has finalised its first federal stablecoin rule and Canada has published draft regulations of its own. Major jurisdictions are converging on the same essentials: full reserves, reliable redemption and proper supervision. Guernsey is well placed to stand alongside them, and to do it with the agility a small, well-run jurisdiction can offer.

TVVIN: from licence application pending to live

For TVVIN, the stablecoin rules are the final piece of the puzzle. The platform has been built for this moment: a Guernsey Protected Cell Company structure, fiat-backed reserves held with banking partners, independent reserve attestation, and redemption designed to be near-instant rather than days away.

Our focus over the winter is simple to describe and demanding to deliver. We are driving towards the operational release of TVVIN’s stablecoins, moving from a licence application pending platform to one minting and redeeming for institutional clients. The demand is already there. The work now is making sure every control, reconciliation and process is ready on day one, not day ninety.

banxlocal: banking with a human face

If TVVIN is about the infrastructure of money, banxlocal is about the people who use it. The UK has lost thousands of bank branches in the past decade, and with them a great deal of trust, convenience and human contact.

banxlocal is reimagining what a branch can be: a shared, multi-bank, multi-service space in the heart of the community. The coming months are about turning that model into something customers can walk into, and about building the partnerships that will take it from one location to many.

New energy, in every sense

There is also something new on the horizon. We are preparing to step into renewable energy and electric vehicles, two areas where an island like Guernsey has a great deal to gain: greater energy resilience, cleaner transport and new routes to local investment.

We can’t say more just yet. What we can say is that the thinking behind them is the same thinking behind everything else we do: practical infrastructure, financed sensibly, built for the community it serves. Announcements will follow in the coming months.

The darker evenings ahead

Winter is often treated as a season for slowing down. For us, it is a season for delivery. Clearer regulation, a stablecoin platform approaching launch, a new model for branch banking and fresh ventures in energy and transport all point the same way.

The clocks may have gone back. Everything else is moving forward.
